“Do you think you can hang on?” Colby’s mother said.
“I’m ready (to die), but I’m going to wait for the movie,” the girl replied.
I am not sure if I have more folks looking at this blog than when I started but I sure hope this entry (and links) finds it’s way to as many monitors, laptops, and cell phones as possible. Most of my entries can easily be categorized and this one is really no different. This isn’t a post that will make you laugh but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t provoke some emotion.
This is about two things; Heroes and Dreams.
The Hero: A little girl who lived her 10 short years to the fullest. Dying of cancer she had a last wish which was to see the new movie Up. Given her declining health she was physically unable to make it to the theater.
The Dream: (or in this case – Dream Maker): An Academy Award ®-winning computer animation studio; Pixar Animation Studios. Pixar, after finding out that Colby had this one last wish to see their movie sent a representative to the Curtin residence with a copy of their newly released movie. The intent was for her to realize her wish. Colby died with her Mom and Dad approximately seven hours after realizing her wish. The details of the screening are nicely outlined at the OC Register along with additional insight into the beautiful life of Colby Curtin.
This story moves me to no end. My heart pours out to the Curtin friends and family. I am so very proud of Pixar and their compassion. Nary a sound came from Pixar around this truly beautiful thing.
