In part, at least for me, to feel like I am part of an idea that I wish were my very own. But more importantly, to do just a little bit to help nudge someone or their idea(s) a little closer to reality / completion.

Rachel Sussman, recently surfaced such an idea. Her project to photograph The Oldest Living Things in the World
Here is an excerpt from her Kickstarter campaign: (Which she is using to fund the below trips)

On a conceptual level, I’m developing this unique index of living organisms with exceptional longevity at a critical juncture in our collective trajectory: how will the natural world fare in the face of climate change? Part art, part science, part philosophy, I hope to tease out themes of longevity, sustainability, the natural sublime and mortality through the work.

On the practical side, I have around 10 more organisms on my list to find and photograph before turning the project into the book. Where do I need to go, and what do I want to photograph, you ask? The biggest trips include:

Searching the Antarctic Peninsula by boat for 5,000-year-old moss

Backpacking in Tasmania and mainland Australia in search of several clonal shrubs in ranging from 10,000 to 43,000 years old

Visiting a sacred site in Sri Lanka for a nearly 2,300-year-old Banyan Fig tree

SCUBA diving in Spain to find the 100,000-year-old clonal sea grass

Please consider supporting her efforts.

Fifty years ago Long-boarding was sidewalk surfing, a faster, farther variation of skateboarding, and now it’s not. Its evolved into something esoteric and fast like a medieval duel in the future. A future where post-apocalyptic nerd warriors in faded but colorful leathers, duct tape, aerodynamic helmets and two kinds of sneakers, race speedboards 45 miles an hour down jet-black roads in the magnificent golden hills outside town. Just for some glory and cash.

A dream in pure white

When compared with the classic black and silver models in the M8 series, this special limited edition with a white leather finish is destined to be the eye-catcher of this summer.

The LEICA M8 ‘White Edition’ is available in a set including a silver anodised LEICA ELMARIT-M 1:2.8/28 mm ASPH lens and strictly limited to just 275 examples. The uniqueness is further emphasised by the special serial numbers assigned exclusively to the cameras.
The exclusive white Nappa cowhide leather of the LEICA M8 ‘White Edition’ makes the Leica M8 a particularly comfortable camera to hold. The camera is accompanied by a high-quality, real leather carrying strap, embossed with the Leica logo. All control elements are finished in silver chrome and, in combination with the lens, perfectly round off the overall styling of the set. The top cover, bottom plate and the camera back are finished in white paint.

The special paint finish is particularly resistant to wear and is characterised by its dirt-repelling surface. This finish provides the pure white camera with long-term protection against unsightly marks. The technical specifications and features of the LEICA M8 ‘White Edition’ are identical to those of the standard LEICA M8 models. Each camera of this special edition is also accompanied by its own unique certificate of authenticity.
LEICA ELMARIT-M 1:2,8/28mm ASPH

The lens included in the LEICA M8 ‘White Edition’ set – a silver anodised LEICA ELMARIT-M 1:2.8/28 mm ASPH – is one of the most popular lenses of the M System. With its extremely low weight of only 180 grams, it is particularly compact and offers outstanding performance for a wide range of photographic applications. The special edition set also includes a classical round lens hood in silver anodised metal and a silver E39 IR/UV filter.

TAUNT – pure taunt.
