Pat Sturgeon needed a kidney. This wasn’t new news for Pat and other members of Rogue Wave, he’s been dealing with his pre-existing condition most of his life. After the success of his first kidney transplant 13 years ago, the kidney started to fail just as Rogue Wave started to take off…

The below video is the trailer for the award-winning feature-length documentary that chronicles Pat Spurgeon’s search for a living organ donor and the challenges associated with finding a viable match.

I was especially excited to see Pat and R/W featured on last.fm doing well with his new kidney and perusing his passion. Take some time to watch the full documentary, a beautifully captured film about how those in need and those who donate can be the one sitting next to you.

This last summer I gushed over the new Phoenix album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. In that post I talked about the staying power that I thought this new album would have. Suffices to say, they have lived up to that praise and then some. On my most recent treasure hunt on La Blogotheque I ran across yet another group of Vincent Moon gems, this one of that very band, Phoenix. Phoenix – 1901 makes for a pretty special wedding and having that beautiful couple in La Blogoteque makes for a wonderful Take Away Show.

Enjoy.

I have rediscovered my love for Mr Dan Deacon. Sure, I revisit Drinking Out of Cups on a weekly basis. It does an amazing job at turning a day around. But I am speaking directly to Mr Deacons latest effort, Bromst. An album that is more “user friendly” than his last few releases. I find myself using Bromst as a nice wake up on my ride in to the office it often is a supplement to my morning coffee. Check out the video for Paddling Ghost beautifully creative. And if you haven’t already seen, the dual fuel, old school bus that they have converted to their rolling home mimics Dan’s music. At this point, we should expect nothing less from this ultra creative. Enjoy.

Rivulet Industries is working on some new and exciting approaches to our online presence. We hope to announce these new endeavors in short order. There are hints on the site as we speak…

Do people buy albums for the cover art anymore? I do. I didn’t know Hawk Nelson were Christian let alone Canadian until after I owned the album and started on some deep research. Hell, I didn’t know if this was a band or one of Willie’s offspring. But honestly, how can you deny that little puppy? And with those adorable glasses he can read the latest edition of ROAD magazine. Neil and company have really outdone themselves this month, ugh. Of course I won’t be able to actually read through it as I get ill both with and without the provided Giro 3-D glasses…
This might be the first Christian album I have bought since Stryper and if I remember correctly I bought that for the cover art as well. Hawk Nelson’s music you ask? Not sure, but I do know they have a song about Lord Stanley called, “Ode To Lord Stanley”. I am pretty sure you can’t write a bad song when it involves Lord Stanley, dekes, rinks, or dangles before bulging the twine top shelf stick side.

Does anyone step on a burning bag of shit anymore?
Does anyone sell encyclopedias door-to-door?

RIP Dimebag, RIP…

I have been following Phoenix since their debut album in the early 2K’s (wow, I just said that). They have had some wonderful singles with the likes of “Too Young”, “Everything is Everything”, and “Run Run Run”. Despite my hopes for this band, the albums simply didn’t have the staying power. Enter Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, simply put this album is magical. Elegance within the dance pop that we all crave. It is everything I thought we would hear from Phoenix in their previous 4 full lengths. It might be a bit early, but this album has the staying power and the pop feel that will leave it in many a persons 6 disc changers (we still do that right?). The single Listmania is already being remixed by tons of folks, (Classixx, Yuksek, and Holy Ghost!) with the continued remix attention they should continue to dominate the summer jam scene. There are 6 other (the gorgeous Love Like a Sunset is probably too long) songs poised as the next great single Phoenix’s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix should remain as an album on the forefront of our minds well into the winter months. The music is poppier (think Cut Copy or Hot Chip) but the feel is similar to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s debut in that the whole album is solid and for most, unexpected. Minus the overtly brass front man.

Did I mention they are from Versailles, France?

I guess for Labour Day, today
It’s the first day I ain’t seen
A great plume of steam from across the lake
From across the lake
Hey, that’s a morning moon, yeah.

I’m not making strain
Said, “Someone’s paying
When something’s too cheap
Somebody’s paying something”
You said, “Some one’s paying something.”
Under a morning moon, yeah
Say those little things that don’t make anyone feel better, yeah

It didn’t take too much to upset her
Nothing that could clear the room
To say one little thing that could make me feel better
Under this morning moon, yeah

The sun’s a lightbulb and the moon is a mirror
There are times when you can see both the bulb and the mirror
See the bulb and the mirror
And that’s the morning moon, yeah
Say those little things that don’t make anyone feel better

It doesn’t take too much to upset her
Nothing that could clear the room
Just saying one little thing trying to make you feel better
Under this morning moon, yeah
Under this morning moon

Morning moon, yeah
Trying to make you feel better
Nothing too far from the truth

Hi Folks,

Greetings to all. We have some very exciting news to deliver.

Our twelfth album, We Are The Same, will be released in North America on Tuesday, April 7th. The album was produced by Bob Rock and recorded primarily at the Bathouse Studio. It contains twelve new tracks that range from levity and light to melancholy and anger. We think it has a little bit for everyone and showcases the great range of the band.
The full track listing is:

Morning Moon
Honey, Please
The Last Recluse
Coffee Girl
Now The Struggle Has A Name
The Depression Suite
The Exact Feeling
Queen of the Furrows
Speed River
Frozen In My Tracks
Love Is A First
Country Day

The opening track, “Morning Moon”, is now available to be streamed from our website, Facebook and MySpace page, as well as our iLike page.

Novelists Joseph and Amanda Boyden wrote the new album bio. Please have a read, we think it captures the essence of We Are The Same better then we could ever imagine articulating it ourselves.

Stay tuned over the coming weeks, as we will continue to announce more great news, including album pre-order details, tour info and some more We Are The Same nuggets.

For those of you who have not spent time at the redesigned thehip.com, we hope you enjoy. The is tons of new goodies, including full streaming of the entire discography, live shows, live pictures and our new online store, the Gift Shop. The Gift Shop features new items such as lyric and classic album t-shirts and the first three volumes of the Live From The Vault concert archive series.

The Hip

I love Thursdays.

I wonder if ‘Unca Mike’ will like this album? It is a little more “Honky Tonk”…
